It is important to note that the diameter of the MAT is slightly smaller than a standard LP.
Why is this important?
Many LPs have a small lip on the outer circumference and when this lip contacts an oversize mat the actual playing surface DOES NOT contact the MAT and thus not providing the intended record coupling I Read Stereo Mojo Review.
The slightly smaller MAT will allow this lip to hang over the edge suspending the great majority of the playing surface. The MAT produces a quieter background resulting in a bigger, deeper soundstage, increased micro-dynamics, wider bandwidth resulting in a rounder deeper bass and speed stability leading to quicker transients and longer decay.
How to use the TT Copper Mat
Remove and Replace the stock mat with the TT Copper Mat, being careful not to drop the copper mats are heavy. The Mat is .120 inches/3.04 mm thick, this may differ from the existing mat and the VTA (Tone Arm Height) may have to be adjusted. The Copper MAT will be more dynamic and in many cases the VTA may be slightly lowered vs. a stock MAT due to the upper and lower frequency range being produced by the density of the Copper. If your system is laid back then this will add life and dynamics.
Each TT Mat is CNC Machined to extremely close tolerances providing a stable, flat, round and true mating surface for the LP. Please do not mount record with moving platter this may damage the MAT and or record. It is highly recommended a center clamp and or weight is used for both for improved coupling (sound) and to stop the record from slipping when cleaning.
DO NOT USE any metal objects to install and or remove the MAT, copper/Carbon Fibre is relatively soft and damage will occur. To remove the MAT simply slide a plastic utensil knife under the edge gently, lift and remove by hand.
About Static and Sound
You need to assure that there is a proper ground on your turntable platter system, if not then the copper MAT cannot ground itself and drain static. Copper is very effective at reducing static build up in the LP when the TT is correctly grounded dramatically reducing pops and clicks. The TT Copper Mat is designed to eliminate phase shifting and reduce surface born vibration in the vinyl and from the platter. You will be amazed how older records sound vibrant and detailed.
The sound is no nonsense, with extreme dynamics resulting from exceptional stability for the record and stylus. The TT Copper Mat series adds a mass of the 4.1 lbs (1.86 KG’s) to the platter for improved flywheel effect improving speed control. The solid Copper Mat provides an incredibility dense surface providing the optimal vibration reducing mating surface. The surface is diamond machined and the coating prevents record damage.
