TTOuter Ring General Information

TTOuterRing - Turntable Periphery Clamping Rings

The TTOuter Ring is machined from solid COPPER providing ground breaking vinyl performance. The source of the Music is the VINYL and everything else is dictated by the accuracy of the information extracted from the vinyl.

The raw blanks are machined from COPPER the most musical/dense and stable material, with super precision machining of the outer lip and designed to locate on the LP’s outer edge and a special centering disk is included for centering on smaller outside diameter and other problematic records.

The Sound

The outer ring will provide dramatic improvements to the records imaging and sound staging. The Outer Ring can be used alone, but the use of a TTSuperClamp or other center weight product is highly recommended. The absolute peak performance will be gained when there is no free play or movement from the vinyl itself. The Outer ring and clamp essentially locate the vinyl directly to the mat, significantly reducing distortion even with worn record grooves.

Warped Records

THE TTOuter Ring will reduce and remove the warp in most warped records expect for the most extreme. If the record is more than 3/8 of an inch warp the ring will flatten most of the warp but they may still be unplayable. Caution is advised.
TTOuter Ring reducing high frequency noise caused by microscopic vibration that causes the stylus to “hear” sounds that are not there, this causes listening fatigue. The true high frequencies can be extracted from the vinyl essentially cleaning up the distortion caused by a vibrating the record groove. Play only what is there in the groove. The TTOuterRing provides smooth and accurate sound across the listening spectrum. The quiet passages are beautiful, less background noise, less tracking and VTA errors create awesome dynamics.

Stylus Clearance

The top surface of the ring is less than .010 higher than the LP surface providing excellent clearance for the Stylus on the entry groove of the record with manual and automatic turntables.
High Mass Density COPPER
The Outer Ring is machined from solid Copper with a specific weight 3 times higher than stainless steel. Stainless rings will resonate (ping/ring) while copper is very dense on a molecular level and does not share these problems. You may ask why the Outer Rings have not been produced in Copper.
The answer is simple, dense and stable COPPER 1/8 to 1/4 inches thick from 12.5 to 13.5 inches in diameter and extremely thin walled areas make the machining extremely difficult. To make a ring this size, perfectly flat and concentric, we use advanced water cutting CNC’s and MULTI AXIS CNC Lathes and each ring is produced by a senior Aerospace Machinist. The rings are flat and concentric within .002 - .004 maximum, average .002 over the entire ring, not an easy task.

To Test Fit for the TTOuter Ring:

Check the clearance of the tone arm and other accessories:

The diameter of the TTOuterRing is 12.5 or 13.6 inches and it is .125 inch thick. The best way to check is to cut out a circular piece of cardboard. Put a thumb tack in the center, ties a string and tie the other end to a pencil, 6.25 (12.5 diameter) or 6.800 (13.6 diameter) inches from the center. Draw the circle.

Cut a small x in the center of the cardboard, cut out the circle. You now have a disc the same size as the TTOuterRing.

Place an old record on the turntable and the cardboard disc on the record with the x in the center and press it down. This will duplicate the diameter and height and make sure the cardboard template disc clears the tone arm and any other features of the turntable.

If there is no interference then the TTOuter Stabilizer Ring will fit perfectly.

Or use a string cut to 6.8 inches tied around the spindle and swing the string around the turntable and check the circle, does it clear?

If there is no interference then the TTOuter Ring is Light Weight extremely effective device that will provide a huge enhancement to the sound of your vinyl for years to come.

Platter Size and Height Restrictions and Solutions

Inner counter bored diameter 11.900 x .110 deep, the record is inset. The Tapered locating surface will self center larger diameter records. Some LP’s are smaller and require the use of the centering disk.

When the Outer Ring is located on the record is sits deeper than the thickness of the LP thus the maximum platter or mat diameter is 11.9 inches. If the TT Turntable Mats (not included) the ring can be mounted on any size platter.

Weight: 290/600 and 1150 Grams in Nickel (Silver) and Natural Copper finish.
Limitations:  Cannot be used on oversize platters bigger than 11.945 inches unless you install a TTSuperMat or the equivalent platter rise of 5 mm.

Please note the Polycarbonate base may be added, by you, to existing TTMicroMats (all) to upgrade to a 1150 grams 5mm thick ring.

Note: TTOuterRing will self locate on many albums and the Disk does not always have to be used.
This device is designed to locate the TTOuter Ring Concentric to the Platter centerline with less than .005 of an inch run-out from spindle to outside diameter of the Ring, perfectly true. Not visible with the naked eye.
The setting device provides the ultimate in balance and even distribution of weight and dampening.
No effect on the turntable, highly balanced
Provides a storage platform for the TTOuterRing when not in use
Simple and very effective with problematic albums, not all albums are made equally!!
