TTMicroMat SP-10 Laminated 2 Layer Copper Factory Replacement Mat
Material and Engineering Summary
·The polycarbonate base is undercut on the diameter for easy grip and removal by hand
·This platter is designed for the SP10 platter; this is a two piece design CNC Machined and designed to fit SP10 Platter recess - precisely
Dimensions: The base 11.60 inches/294.60mm diameter
with the copper Mat Insert of 11.45 inches/290.83mm diameter and 3 mm thick, 3.6 LBS
Total Thickness is .220 inches/ 5 MM thick
Turntable Replacement Mat/Heavy Duty Box and foam for shipping
Designed for the ultimate coupling, the outer lead in edge of the LP clears the mat and the center is relieved to clear record labels and thus playing surface is coupled correctly
The spindle hole is bored to .290 inches/7.366 mm diameter
The edges are CNC chamfered, no sharp edges
Weight: 1860 Grams (1.86 KG/4.1 lbs)
Diamond Machined and sprayed with clear coat special anti oxidant
Engineered to Perform
LJT Manufacturing utilizes a very specific COPPER plate as a raw material, the finished product is coated with a copper anti oxidant to maintain the natural look. This is a precision product to be handled with extreme care.
It is important to note that the diameter of the MAT is slightly smaller than a standard LP.
Why is this important?
Many LPs have a small lip on the outer circumference and when this lip contacts an oversize mat the actual playing surface DOES NOT contact the MAT and thus not providing the intended record coupling.
Classic Records Super Vinyl Profile with Groove Guard is such an example. Attempts to flatten such an LP (with a center clampor outer ring, optional use) can result in dishing or bowing. The slightly smaller MAT will allow this lip to hang over the edge suspending the great majority of the playing surface.
The MAT produces a quieter background resulting in a bigger, deeper soundstage, increased micro-dynamics, wider bandwidth resulting in a rounder deeper bass and speed stability leading to quicker transients and longer decay.
How to use the TTMicroMat
Remove and Replace the stock mat with the TTMicroMat, being careful not to drop the MAT it is very HEAVY. The Mat is .220 inches/5 mm thick, this may differ from the existing mat and the VTA (Tone Arm Height) may have to be adjusted. The Copper MAT will be more dynamic and in many cases the VTA may be slightly lowered vs. a stock MAT due to the upper and lower frequency range being produced by the density of the Copper. If your system is laid back then this will add life and dynamics. If your system is overly bright (tubes etc) or you listen to a lot of classical and jazz, or vocalists you may want to consider the ULIMAT or our Carbon Fiber Versions for the SP-10or simply a lower VTA.
Each TTMicroMat is CNC Machined to extremely close tolerances providing a stable, flat, round and true mating surface for the LP. Please do not mount record with moving platter this may damage the MAT and or record. It is highly recommended a center clamp and or weightis used for both for improved coupling (sound) and to stop the record from slipping when cleaning.
DO NOT USE any metal objects to install and or remove the copper MAT, copper is relatively soft and damage will occur. To remove the MAT simply slide a plastic utensil knife under the edge gently, lift and remove by hand.
About Static and Sound
You need to assure that there is a proper ground on your turntable platter system, if not then the copper MAT cannot ground itself and drain static. Copper is very effective at reducing static build up in the LP when the TT is correctly grounded dramatically reducing pops and clicks. The TTMicroMat is designed to eliminate phase shifting and reduce surface born vibration in the vinyl and from the platter. You will be amazed how older records sound vibrant and detailed.
The sound is no nonsense, with extreme dynamics resulting from exceptional stability for the record and stylus. The TTMicroMat adds a mass of the 4.1 lbs (1.86 KG’s) to the platter for improved flywheel effect improving speed control. The solid Copper Mat provides an incredibility dense surface providing the optimal vibration reducing mating surface. The surface is diamond machined and the coating prevents record damage.
Benefits Summary
Eliminates platter vibration using a material with a high specific gravity improving tracking and stylus stability and dramatically improving the depth of sound
Copper provides beautiful full range and dynamic sound, very similar to Brass, the cartridge is reading the music grooves not the "vibrating record"
Adding High Density Mass to the platter improves the turntables ability to dampen vibration structural born vibration
The platter is flat within .002 of an inch over the entire area and parallel within .0015
The COPPER provides exceptional static grounding of the vinyl record dramatically reducing static and surface noise reduced electromagnetic interference (noise) to the sensitive stylus
