What about Rim vs. Belt
The belt offers an unreal black background with excellent pitch and tonality (better than 90% of belts in the market) due to the 3 belt drive/outer rim and high power motor design. The rim drive provides unmatched speed and timing, a reality that to the music lover is hard to mistake. The rim drive has the PRAT and likes high end moving coils (speed)/the belt drive has the dead silence that provides magic and works extremely well with moderately priced cartridges, there is more forgiveness. The choice is yours, rim or belt it!!
The new motor is quieter, more powerful and features advanced motion control providing low torque start ups, improved braking and easier set up. The two component motor separates the electronic controls from the motor allowing a much heavier solid 18.8 lb (8.5 Kg’s) Carbon Steel Housing that is shot peened and powder coated for mass dampening and resonance control(the original GEM motor is 8.2 Lbs).The motor is bolted internally with four ¼ - 20 Allen bolts in to a .800 thick top plate. The extreme precision of both the motor and the tolerances in the machined components provide extremely quiet and accurate speed control. The base features a fully inset ¼ inch silicone damping and locating ring located in specially machined Polycarbonate Base for isolation and non slip operation.
